A brochure about the Rightly Guided Caliphs, ready for printing. The lives of the Rightly Guided Caliphs were full of high educational, religious, and moral lessons that Muslim students in school should learn about, such as justice in daily dealings, sincerity, courage, generosity, asceticism, and commitment to the teachings of the Islamic religion. The Rightly Guided Caliphs are considered among the greatest figures in Islamic history because of the justice and support for the religion that Muslims witnessed during their era, and the spread of Islam in various parts of the earth.
Their caliphate lasted 30 years after the death of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). They were: Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may God be pleased with him), Umar ibn al-Khattab (may God be pleased with him), Uthman ibn Affan (may God be pleased with him), and Ali ibn Abi Talib (may God be pleased with him). The caliphate system during their time was based on justice, equality among people, consultation (shura), asceticism, humility, and a commitment to the welfare of the Muslim community by unifying its banner, spreading knowledge and jurisprudence, caring for the poor, and establishing administrative, economic, and judicial systems such as the Diwans (government departments) and the Bayt al-Mal (treasury). The Holy Quran was also compiled into a single volume during their reign. They were known for their admirable qualities, such as sincere faith in God, justice in dealings, dedication and excellence in work, detachment from worldly desires, generosity, courage, seeking the opinions of others before making decisions, wisdom, a love of knowledge and its dissemination, mercy, and compassion. They were exemplary figures throughout history. Therefore, it is important for students to learn about their noble lives so they may understand that strength lies not only in the sword but also in high morals, justice, righteous deeds, faith in God Almighty, and adherence to His teachings.
