A bedtime story: Yasser and the City of Giving
Children’s stories
The bedtime story "Yasser and the City of Giving" tells the story of a young boy who discovers the meaning of volunteering. He transforms from someone indifferent to volunteering or helping others, believing that everything happening around him is none of his business, into a positive individual who feels the needs of others and possesses a positive will to do good without expecting anything in return. The story revolves around a young boy named Yasser who lives an ordinary life and knows nothing about volunteering. The story begins with Yasser looking out of his window and seeing the garden overflowing with leaves, but he does nothing, assuming that someone else is responsible for cleaning it and that it's not his concern. He repeats the same behavior when he sees his elderly neighbor carrying heavy bags; he hesitantly passes by her but offers no help.
The story repeats itself when Yasser goes to school. The school announces a volunteer week, starting with cleaning the city's public park. However, Yasser apologizes for not attending. On his way home, he sees his neighbor sitting down, exhausted. Yasser feels remorse for neglecting him, so he gets her water and helps her. That moment represents a significant turning point in Yasser's character, as he discovers that true happiness lies in giving without expecting anything in return. Volunteering is the foundation of successful societies, embodying other values such as cooperation, respect, compassion, benevolence, and initiative. Through this educational and meaningful story, we plant the seeds of goodness and giving in children's minds so they grow up understanding the importance of volunteering to build a more beautiful world.
